After not hoing for 3-4 yrs now - last one was the Wilson Fi5s. Don't get me wrong. I may switch irons if I feel like it before every round so the Fi5s did not see all that action. I used 2 or 3 others. I am an iron ho and going 4yrs is like asking a Weightwatchers escapee to stay away from Vegas buffets. I am jonesing for:
1. Forged;
2. Cavity backs;
3. Clean lines and aesthetics, and;
4. No X games styling motifs.
My candidates in order of preference:
1. TItleist CB710/712 - Handsome clubs. Very clean lines and styling and I like their uniform clubhead size. I like the 710 more than the 712, me likey shiny chrome;
2. Mizuno MP-63 - Also good looking clubs. I like their backpad design w/ good mass behind the hitting area. Just a bit too angular in look annd is very well made;
3. Wilson FG Tour forged - the 1st edition. One of the real good ones. Wilson is back. The Raiders backpad motif is tolerable. Reminds me of the Titleist DTR with the toe weighting;
4. Bridgestone J40 non pocket cb - Like the Miz. Good mass on the backpad but somewhat bigger, almost midsized clubhead. The only dislike. Also looks well done.
These are 4 so far. I've hit the 1st 3. The Miz feels better (duh) but I was more comfortable with the look of the Titleist. The FG does not take a backseat in feel to the Miz. Different but just as good in feel. I hit these indoors and numbers were no different among the 3. Shafts were all DGS300s. I use S200s in all my irons but will be moving to lighter weight steel.
I am wondering what the GEA collective has as far as impressions of forged CBs. The ones I mentioned or others I should look at.Reply

I've been looking for any excuse to get the 712s, but there's really no area in which they are a big improvement on my Scratch AR-1, and there's really no other club which has anything like the soft feel of the Scratch forgings. Available in three grinds (as well as full custom) for different swingtypes.Reply

Go custom, Wishon 575MMC.
Blades up to 8i then players cavity from 7i up. I'm playing these this season and y rounds in they are awesome. I have mine shafted with the Wishon step less shafts.Reply

In the list you have I'd favor the Titleists. However also consider the new Cleveland forged irons. They almost remind me of the old Macgregor PCB Tours. I hit these on the range and they had great feel and surprisingly good forgiveness considering they're fairly compact.Reply

Any of the MP series Mizunos will meet your preferences, I think. I do really like the looks of the Wilson FG Tours (both the 1st version and the most recent) - they aren't Fi5 pretty, but still look good. Still ridiculously expensive, but if you could find a "reduced" price set of the forged Ping Ansers, they would fit the bill as well.Reply

Actually, I am going to look at them tonight - both the 62s and 63s.
I am just not that fond of the angular look that Mizzes have since the MP60s.
I am turning into someone like you, boss.

I actually have a set of heads, the older models - still mint and unshafted. Great feel and easy to hit. I may dispose of these, though, to get a new set.Reply

I respect your opinion on shafts, Awalk, as always but and I am sure the Scratch's are great heads. I am just not too fond of the look. It reminds me of my old RAM FXs, which are still pretty darn good.
Whatever I decide I may go with TFR5.0s hard stepped on this new set. This will be my first migration to lighter weight steel shafts.Reply

The Adams MB2 (?) are kind of the sleeper clubs right now and they perofrm. I've hit them indoors and they're not bad. They have that nice blade look and all that distributed weighting on the sole, etc. seem to work. Just a bit large-ish for those who are used to classic blade heads.
The 1st ed FG Tours got me jonesin' and I still play my Fi5s, though.

I've got a set of AP2 710's 3-PW in conservative 9/10 shape (absolutely no noticable nicks or dings), DGS300 + 1/2" w/Titliest Tour Velvets that I'd probably let go for $400 (paypal is OK) shipped USPS Priority to Frisco....let me know if interested.
Thanks,
CG
