All three are nice courses. If I had to rate them I would say
1. Regatta Bay
2. Kelly Plantation
3. Indian Bayou
Regatta and Kelly are very similar and in close proximity to each other. Indian Bayou is a bit older and a step down in quality but still fun.Others that may be of interest are Eglin AFB and Windswept Dunes and of course the Sandestin Courses

IMHO Kelly & Regatta are 1 & 1a. Raven is the best of the Sandestin Courses, Emerald Bay is *very* tight and doesn't drain particularly well. Indian Bayou is somewhat older, but certainly worth playing; Seascape (same folks as Emerald Bay) is only so so. Camp Creek is beautiful, but bares its teeth in the wind. Windswept is worth the trip across the bay on 331, unless you're fool enough to play it from the tips. Santa Rosa Beach Club is a nice enough course, but not a 'premium' one. I've been told that Bluewater isn't in very good shape, but I can neither confirm nor deny.Reply

I'll second PCB's recs but would add this: Emerald Bay is a swamp if it rains. PC said it doesn't drain well, but I think that's an understatement. I needed a boat the last time I played it. On the upside, Camp Creek is a must play. It's not cheap, but it would be at the top of my list.Reply

Have been to Destin every August since 2005.
1. Sandestin Burnt Pine--private course but sometimes TeeTimes USA can schedule times, but this has varied over the last few years
2. Camp Creek
3. Sandestin Raven
4. Regatta Bay
5. Kelly Plantation
6. Windswept Dunes--not much ambience but a solid course

Bluewater is in poor shape (I live there). They are talking about closing the Magnolia course and building homes or offices.
I played Windswept last week, it needs water. Greens were a little spotty and ridiculously fast. I played it 2 summers ago and it looked like Augusta.
Camp Creek is a great course. I walked it last spring at a US Open qualifier and it is tough as he!!. $165 IIRC and a great course.
Raven and Links at Sandestin are in good shape. Kelley Plantation looks to be in nice shape, I have never been on it but it looks good when I view it going over the bridge. Emerald Bay is in good shape too, at least it was a couple months ago.

That sounds like a way to lose even more money, given the economy right now. :( I'll be at Windswept in a couple of weeks; our dogfight will be visiting because Holiday is hosting a charity scramble. Ridiculously fast greens and 100 foot putts can be a lot of fun!! Baytown, Raven, Kelly, & Emerald were all in great shape for the Winter Classic in December. Camp Creek is great, it's just hard for me to cough up that much coin, especially when I used to play it regularly for $40.

Agree, especially since the Magnolia the the best of the four 9 hole course at Bluewater.Reply

I sure hate to hear that. We've been playing Bluewater Bay since the first week it was opened. We used to play Sandestin (when it wasn't the "Links", just the only course at Sandestin and the pro shop was a house trailer). We had to drive all the way around either Fort Walton or Hwy 20 from the Panama side and it was an all day trip to get in 27 holes. LOL
Seems like all the cart guys, starters, marshalls, etc., were retired Service people and everyone was so nice and friendly. The last time we played it, early spring of last year, the conditioning was not as good as we had always been used to.
We've watched the area grow over the last 39 years, and I guess the golf play has just gotten spread too thin, much like a lot of other places.

Inlaws have a condo on the beach in Destin. Wife and I stayed for a week last year. I played Regatta every day. They have this Fundestin package you can buy for $150 or somwthing and it includes a free round of golf every day. Of course they assume you will bring other people who will pay. But they didn't mind me showing up as a single every day and joining a group or flying around by myself. Great track and usually in immaculate condition.
Kelly is my other favorite. Camp Creek is a must play too.

Have played each of these 5+ times....
1. Kelly Plantation...always seems to have that extra something which pushes it above Regatta as a must play, imo.
2. Regatta Bay....excellent and I understand why some would pick this over KP.
3. Sandestin Links....hidden gem and best course for the $$, imo.
4. Indian Bayou....always reminds me of a southern strand course you would find at Myrtle Beach. Always in good shape and a nice round of golf.Reply
