The only club that didn't perform is the M2 driver. Still playing the 10.5 RBZ I bought on kijij for $50 as a backup to my 9.5*.

The M2 regular shaft feels stiffer than the RBZ stiff shaft I'm playing. Too bad the tips aren't compatible.

I assume the M2 shaft doesn't play right for your swing.

I've got to believe the M2 head is far superior in performance, forgiveness and ball speed vs. the RBZ head.

Brian this is an issue of launch conditions.

Shorter shaft, more loft will result in longer shots from the turf. Easiest way to deal with this is to get a shaft you love and head that you could grow to love.

Tight-lies, Tour-edge exotics or something similar. Sound is going to be the key component of feel.

The 15º has its place just not off of the fairway right now.

what shaft do you have in your 5 Deep?

I have one with the Fuji 73 pro shaft. I hit low bullets with it.

Thinking of a reshaft.

I've been trying to find a 5 wood that I can hit far AND high...seems to be one or the other for me.

The 2016 M2 fairway is IMO one of the best out there. Too bad it's discontinued.

The 2018 Ping G400 fairway is ok, but counterbalanced shafts don't work IMO. The Ping club is short compared to the 2016 M2.

Agreed about the 2016 M2. I was lucky a few weeks ago and picked up a brand new one in the wrapper for around $80.

I am also a senior player. I was never a really good fairway wood player. I would carry a 5 or 7 wood for shots off the fairway. I tried a Cobra F7 3 wood and hit it great off the tee and also off the fairway. You can adjust this from 13.5* up to 15,5* and it has these raised rails on the bottom that really work. I also hit this years version the F8 at a demo day and was very impressed. Easy to hit. I recently tried a Taylor M4 but hit the Cobra's better.

It's discontinued because the new versions are better

Hotter face, sound better, and look better (imo)

All 3 woods are hard to hit off the deck. Good luck in your search

This...unless one is a highly skilled golfer with good club head speed..
To the OP...... get a 4W or use a 5W off the deck.

Yes...the F8 series are sweet sticks.....but it too will be discontinued when the F9 has a hotter face, sounds better and better looks.

At the golf show back in the Feb....I demo'd the F8+ 3/4W...it felt so nice...my friend upgraded to the F8+ series....driver. 3W, 3&4H with good results.

Cobra stuff for the last 3 years has been under the radar and can be bought cheap NOS or used....same with the Adams XTD series stuff.

What changed?

Hitting a 3 wood or even a driver off the deck was no big deal...I understand that hitting a 460cc driver off the ground is tough....but a 3 wood?

What changed...did we just get older and slower?

I have the stock S-flex green fuji. Fits me pretty good, I can work it high or low, but don't fight hooks.

Yup age and slower will make it more difficult to hit a 3W off the deck with any consistency unless one is a really skilled old golfer.

A 15* 3W off the deck leaves little room for error.
A 17* 4W does assist.

I have a Stage 2 3HL...but nowadays I use it only off the tee...I've found a used Callaway XHot 19* 3H recently that I like....and I can hit it with more consistency off the deck...but that's just me....some golfers hate hybrids.

If I can't reach the green using a 3H...so be it.....I'll just have to scramble to get up and down.

For me, fairway grass has gotten shorter

My club they're as tight as I've ever seen, too short in fact, so there is nothing holding the ball up to help get under it.

The 3hl and 5hl m4 clubs I can hit in the air off these lies but I can also come up and out of it and skim em about 200 yards leaving scorched earth in it's wake.

In general, today's 3W are longer, lower lofted, and have larger heads than older models.

All of those make them harder to hit off the deck unless you have some skill.

The other day I hit my 3 'long' approach shot clubs at the range.

TEE EX9 Long 15*

Adams TL2Ti 15*

Kasco K2K 33

The easiest to hit...kasco by a MILE.

Longest...TEE EX9...not even close.

Shortest...Kasco by a few yards judging by the flags at the range.

I hit the Kasco about 225, the Adams about 230-235 and the TEE about 250.

The problem...the TEE is about a 4/10 proposition and the other 6 are HORRIBLE.

I'm thinking of getting a TEE EX10 Beta 15* to try out...I'd like to get about 240 off the ground...The EX9Long is a great tee club, but it's got a larger clubbed. It seems like on Par 5' I'm always 240-260 out...and just can't reach with the Adams or Kasco.

Either that, or I need to just move up a set of tees.

Agreed. A 3 wood off a tight bent grass fairway requires a lot of precision. I would often rather hit it from a propped up lie in the rough.
