Full Version: 2008 Cobra Pro Cb irons

Have a chance to pick up a mint set of these cheap with s300 shafts.

I hit the 4 iron at the indoor range and was striping it pretty consistently.

Needless to say I was pretty impressed....did a search on both of our forums and found very little buzz about these which surprised me.

I currently have MP 60's in my bag with MP 33's as backup set....I also recently picked up a nice set of MX 20's as well.

I am thinking of giving the cobras a whirl....I just posted a bunch of items on e bay to potentially finance the deal.

Any comments on these sticks?

I have demo'd them several times and always been very impressed. I play MP-62s.

I demoed them and thought they were the best looking club I'd seen in a long time. Beautiful set up. I don't like project x shafts, but if I'd hit them in dynamic gold, I bet I would have bought them.

Mike

p.s. if you're like me, its awfully hard for another set to trump your mp33's, isn't it?

My Mp 33's are amazing.....but they are pretty beat unfortunately. If I could find another set in mint condition at a fair price that would be done. I like the MP 60's a lot too tho certainly not as much....they play very much alike....I like the weak lofts in the MP 33's I guess.

I found the pro cb's very appealing to my eye at set up....I have recently been playing my 71 Wilson Staff Buttonback irons a bit at the local par 3 and I really like the tiny club behind the ball....but these almost hit themselves.

I was very impressed and I am quite fussy about gear.

That's why I am surprised to find very little buzz about the pro cb's on GEA, tho there was a lot of buzz over on WRX.

So buzz on please.......

If you like traditional blades with a small clubhead, keep your eyes open on ebay for a set of Orlimar Ken Venturi pg-64 irons. They were a limited run in the year 2000... a gorgeous compact clubhead with nickel plating.

Oops.. sorry to change the subject!

I think you should get the Pro CB's... you only live once!

I have them and love them.. small head, solid feel, and just enough forgiveness that mediocre swings aren't punished too much

What shaft do you play in them?

Can you describe ball flight and carry?

They sound nice as you describe and your experience matches my first impressions....

I hit the 4 and 6...how are the shorter irons?

I have project x 6.5.. but shafts are a very personal thing :)

I have no problem hitting the ball high, low, or moving it around when I have to. they are lower trajectory than mp33s for sure, more mid flight. the short irons are nice and small, with a good sole, friendly around the green

Thank for the comments folks.

Leaning towards sticking with the MP 60's for now until I can demo MP 62's or pick up a set of those on the cheap. Haven't hit those yet tho, heck I haven't even seen a set in person but once in the rack with plastic on.

Checked the specs on the pro cb vs the MP 60 and they are identical...the MP 60 are solid and this is probably just a whimsical iron ho thing....

Plus what would I do with my mizzi bag, hat and visor?

I dunno this is a tough one....I would grab em on speculation but then the budget police would swoop in.....

Any further thoughts on why these would be better than what I have in the bag now except for the fact that my first impressions were love at first sight (and hit?)

Who has hit MP 60 vs pro cb with same shaft side by side and chosen the pro cb and why?

Nope.

I went out yesterday and striped the MP 60's....maybe they just needed to feel a little bit threatened!!! LOL!

I still might grab the Cobras tho.....if they are still avail next week. I actually borrowed the pro cb 6 iron and carried it my bag hitting 2 balls on a few holes side by side. Very similar to the MP 60...identical ball flight, maybe just a little more mass behind the ball but only slight diff at best.

You got dibs on the 33's big fella, go get em!!!

Great irons. Try the MB if you get the chance. It is very good as well.

LOL no I wouldn't have bought those because my specs are different from those. I need 1/2" over length and stiffer shafts than those, plus I'd have to get the lie angles changed and different grips.

I have a set of MP33's - they are somewhat worn but still quite playable.

I have to learn to make offers on auctions like that you never know....some lucky sucker scored huge. It was $450 buy it now or make an offer.

Those were gorgeous and I am standard length and lie.

Rats.

Still mulling over the Cobras.

By the time I finish mulling they might be gone........

There would be no mulling over a mint set of my spec MP 33's for $250.

Whenever you see Make an Offer, take a shot at it! I've scored a few beauties on Ebay that way. Although it IS unusual to list something for $450 and sell it for $250. I would have anticipated something like $389.

Its probably good that I am not standard specs or I would have about 25 sets of irons!

I've hit both and currently own the Cobra Pro CBs. I could not comment on whether the CBs would be better in the bag over the 60s because the 60s are pretty good in tehir own right. The Mizzes may have a slightly softer feel and this is with both having DGs (I play DGS200s). I will give the Cobra the edge in ease of setup with the mid to long irons because the CBs are slightly more compact. The 60s have a thickish transition from blade heel to hosel while the Cobra is proportioned well. No thickness - just all business. The MP60s have a better looking cavity but it is the look at setup that I pay more attention to. Ball flight, the CBs was a bit sharper while the MPs seemed to hit them higher. Either one is a winner and the MPs will probably be easier to sell used. The Cobra is a really good stick, though. BTW, I am also an iron ho. Given the chance to choose between the CB and MP60, I'd still pick the CB. Between the 33 and the CB? hehe - 33s, hands down. MP62s vs CBs, both new? MP62s, most likely.
