Full Version: Free at last, free at last

After more than thirty years working for our provincial government, yesterday was my last day in the office. And just by coincidence, it was my son's last exam in university. We both arrived home at the same time (more coincidence).

I am sad, happy, proud and a whole bunch of other emotions. I didn't have to leave work, had a great job, loved my colleagues but it was time to go.

Most of all, I am just plain tired. Going to take the weekend off and start working on the next chapter of my life on Monday.

Congrats!

You'll have change the GIF in your signature now.

Obligatory Winnipeg joke: You could become a big game mosquito hunter as your next gig.

Congratulations. You’ll find that, after a brief adjustment period, you’ll start to wonder how you ever found time to go to work.

Congratulations young man, I know retirement is a distasteful chore but some of us have to do it so we can allow others to keep on working! Your sacrifice is duly noted.

Congrats Hal..... you will definitely find things to occupy your time... starting with all those things you said you would get around to and didn't.

Enjoy a restful and well deserved weekend.

Congratulations Hal - if you were at all similar at work, as you are here on GEA - then I am sure that your shoes will be hard to fill.

Good luck with the next big thing.

You be you!

Congratulations Hal. As a retiree, when asked how I like it, I respond, "it's underrated."

It’s always best to retire before the folks you work with start getting on your nerves. More pleasant experience all around. I was lucky enough to do the same thing almost 6 years ago.

Being retired is a pretty fun job if you approach it right. Golf, fishing and spoiling the dog does it for me. Just avoid the daily nap habit that overtakes many.

Above all, enjoy it.

That's awesome Hal, congrats.

I hope you are not one of those who can't 'be retired' and will have to do something M-F, tho I suppose if you are, you are.

I want to relax and do whatever the heck moves me. If anything. Told my wife I can golf, ride the bike, read a book, lay in a hammock, watch a movie........or just sit down and surf the laptop.

I'm not sure she can. Her dad told them all growing up............get up and do something, you can sleep when you're dead!

I think working 30-40 years is more than enough. Relax.

The other day a my retired friends wife asked him" What are you doing"
His reply to her was "nothing"
She said "well you did that yesterday!"
To which he replied " I'm not done yet"

Congratulations! I'm going to retire so I can work only 40 hours a week or less. I haven't done a thing all day to do with work or work. But I should have.
