I said on Jan 12 after 3 straight Saint losses:
"I have a feeling that Sean Payton has been intentionally holding back the Saints and that they will be the surprise team of the playoffs. Just a hunch."
I thinks he's the most valuable non-player in the league.

He made some gutsy calls ... lost one though the D bailed them out with a good stop and then a long field goal. The on side kick is probably the gutsiest call in SB history. That being said as happy as I am the Saints won I'm not sure it was the best coaching in Super Bowl history. If that on side kick fails and they give the Colts great field position the Colts rout might have been on.
There have been games where the game plans were clearly they out coached the opposition. This was a great hard fought game. I loved the on side kick, I'm just wondering still if it was a smart call or just a lucky one born of some desperation ... it worked so of course it goes down as a great call.
Having the guts to make those calls did show great confidence in his team and for that I applaud him. I know that the on side kick fired them up for sure.

Great call, but wasn't really all that gutsy... he knew they would be kicking it to Butterfingers Baskett, and there was no way he was going to make a play...
I told my wife at halftime, even though they are ahead, if the Colts don't score every time they touch the ball in the second half, they will lose... you could just see that the Saints were ready to light it up with the passing game.
The bottom line is, the Saints are a better team, and they proved it last night...

After thinking about the game overnight.
Payton played to win. Caldwell played not to lose.
Payton knew against a vastly superior team on paper, he had to
steal the game. He's fearless in his decision making.
Caldwell showed wear he was at the end of 1st half.
All year Colts would have went into scoring mode.
I think Pollian believes he doesn't need great coaches, and he can win with anyone at the reins.

Vastly superior?
The Saints had the #1 offense.
A better return game
a better running game (supposedly... altho it wasn't in the game)
Caldwell definitely went to his tendecies (Dungy clone) especially throwing in the towel with 2 minutes to go in the 1st half.
How anyone gets hired for a high profile job without anyone else being interviewed is beyond me.

Heck, I'd bet you could win a few games as Colts' head coach if you had Manning throwing for you...

All a coach can do for our team is mess it up
Our last 2 have done that unfortunately

Did we rehire Ron Meeks as a special assistant for this game?? That defense looked eerily familiar...
If Brees had just thrown that 10 yard out route to Jennings side every time, he would have had 40 completions in 40 attempts..

I watched Dungy #### away several very good teams I'll call him the idiot he is.
Just like his prediction yesterday that the Colts would blow out the Saints but you must not have seen that.
He got way too much credit for the superbowl win here and does not get enough criticism for the seasons that ended in disappointment.
He left coaching so he could spend more time with his family then spends every waking moment on NBC talking about football?
He's a hypocrit... always has been and always will be.
Sean Payton is twice the coach and doesn't have to push his viewpoints down unwilling peoples throats.
You would get 12 wins coaching the Colts next year. Does that make you a good coach?
There are no sour grapes I have said as much about Dungy several times before on this forum and I would have said the same things even if the results were different last night.
Since you like lifetime history... Jim Caldwell was a below .500 coach at Wake Forest and has NEVER had a winning record, until this season.
What qualified him to have his position except being in the right place at the right time?
He's open to criticism... that's why he makes a million dollars a year.
And the kicker? he should have never been on the field trying that kick he hadn't gotten close all year to that distance. Bad coaching yet again
