What's the word on Burnham boilers? We may be buying a house with a 12-year old Burnham boiler, and our inspector said that the castings are in bad shape - a typical problem for this era. He recommends we list it as a contingency item to be replaced by the seller.
We're not yet sure if the seller will opt to replace the boiler, perhaps with a cheap one, or low-ball us with a cash offer - well, a reduction in selling price.
Any advice? It's a small house, only 1000 s.f. If we end up replacing it ourselves, any brand recommendations?

If the inspector said the castings look bad it is time for replacement. Last thing you want is a leak in the middle of winter. That or depending on the style a burn through. 12 years isn't really that long and Burnham makes a good boiler.
When I was in the business we installed Weil-McLain 98% of the time.
